WARNING TO ASTA CONFERENCE ATTENDEES

BEWARE OF HOTEL AND TRAVEL BOOKING SCAMS

If you are contacted via phone or email by any company claiming to represent ASTA for hotel or travel booking services for the CSS or Vegetable & Flower Seed conferences, please do not do business with them. The official housing provider for ASTA conferences would not be contacting you by phone or email to make reservations.

ASTA does not utilize any 3rd party hotel or travel booking services!

These solicitations are from unauthorized and unethical companies that act as travel agencies, wholesalers or destination management companies to sell room reservations or other travel services.

How They Lure Scam Victims:

The poachers acquire names in an authorized way from show directories and texhibitor listings. They might inform an exhibitor or attendee that the hotel room block is “virtually sold out,” and that if not booked by the attendee immediately, he or she may not be able to get a room for the conference. Implied affiliation with ASTA is strong. Additional deceptive tactics include distributing forms or promotional materials that appear to be issued by ASTA.

Why Room and Travel Poachers are Bad for You:

Room poachers often don’t deliver on promises to customers. When meeting attendees arrive, the reservations are non-existent or the hotels are located far from the convention hotel. Sometimes the rooms have been cancelled with hefty cancellation charges placed on the guest’s credit card.

We at ASTA work diligently to give all attendees and exhibitors the best overall experience at our annual conferences and we ask for your continued support. Please bring any questionable solicitations to us at jcrouse@amseed.org and pass this along to anyone whom you think may benefit.
