Senate Ag Committee Advances Farm Bill
- On October 1, 2026
On September 16, the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry voted in favor of its Farm Bill proposal, the Agriculture Act of 2026. All Republicans voted in favor, while all Democrats voted against. The bill now heads to the Senate floor for a vote.
In April, the House of Representatives passed its own Farm Bill, . Should the Senate pass its Farm Bill, the House and Senate would need to resolve the differences between their two versions (“conferencing”) and then pass the unified version in both chambers before sending it to the President’s desk for signature. Should a Farm Bill not become law by the end of this Congress (January 3), an extension of current law will likely be necessary and the process will begin again in the new year.
