Registration Open for UC Davis E-Series Courses

Based upon a seed industry-wide survey assessing continuous educational needs during the pandemic, the UC Davis Seed Biotechnology Center (SBC) launched online short courses called the Plant Breeding Academy (PBA) E-Series. The format uses the proven teaching models of in-person courses, focusing on practical application and interaction with experienced instructors.

The UC Davis Seed Biotechnology Center Plant Breeding Academy℠ (PBA) programs and courses have enjoyed global popularity with both seed and plant breeding professionals, utilizing a model focusing on the practical application of science and theory. These programs feature veteran instructors from industry and academia who have successfully been taught in person.

E-Series Hybrid Breeding Strategies

Foundational level, designed for plant breeders and their teams, this course will aid in the design and development of a true hybrid breeding engine, covering the topics of breeding targets, germplasm, and trait organization into pools, the importance of hybrid testing/evaluation, early vs late generation testing, choice of testers, and more.

Level 2: R for the Plant Breeder – Data exploration, visualization, and reporting basics

This module builds on the basics from Module 1 to provide the student with the knowledge and tools to be able to successfully clean up, wrangle, summarize, and visualize their data using R. Students will take advantage of the power of RStudio and the Tidyverse tools. This course is a recommended prerequisite for UC Davis Plant Breeding Academy.
