ASTA Hosts Japan Delegation
- On September 18, 2026
On September 1, ASTA hosted a delegation of 15 Japanese biotechnology regulators at its office in Alexandria, VA, in partnership with CropLife International (CLI) and the U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council (USGBC). While speaking to the group, ASTA staff examined the global regulatory landscape for genome-edited plants, highlighted that most countries distinguish genome-edited crops (lacking foreign DNA) from crop biotechnology, and stressed the need for internationally compatible, science-based regulatory frameworks to support seed industry innovation and trade.
The group was in Washington, D.C. as part of an annual biotech-focused tour across the U.S. planned by USGBC. Before arriving in D.C., the delegation visited sites across the U.S. to learn more about biotech grain research, production, and transportation.
