On March 6, the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced a request for technical consultations with the Government of Mexico under the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) Chapter of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). These consultations regard certain Mexican measures concerning products of agricultural biotechnology.

ASTA supports USTR’s actions and has joined other associations in sending a letter to President Biden expressing the agricultural sector’s concerns over Mexico’s biotech policies. ASTA will continue to monitor these discussions and engage USTR on next steps. For more information, view the press release here.
