U.S.-Japan Bi-lateral Trade Agreement Announced

The U.S. and Japan are expected to begin negotiations on a free trade agreement early next year. The first phase of the negotiations will focus on agriculture, automobile and regulatory issues. ASTA will be providing input on priority areas to the U.S. Trade Representative in the coming weeks. It is expected that the agreement will incorporate elements from the previously negotiated Trans-Pacific Partnership, from which the U.S. withdrew in 2017.
