The Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry held a confirmation hearing on February 2 to consider the nomination of Tom Vilsack as Secretary of Agriculture. The former Secretary under President Obama provided testimony outlining his priorities in overseeing the U.S. Department of Agriculture if confirmed as Secretary. Some of the priorities outlined include: addressing climate change, pandemic response, and food security.

The Committee voted later that day by a voice vote, in support of moving his confirmation out of Committee and to the Senate floor. A vote has not yet been scheduled in the Senate. ASTA sent a letter to Committee leadership on February 2 and joined other agriculture industry organizations on a letter in support of Vilsack’s confirmation.
