Join USDA-APHIS & ASTA for a Special Session on Joint Systems Approaches to Phytosanitary Regulations (ReFreSH): this Friday in San Diego

In conjunction with the ASTA Vegetable & Flower Seed Conference in San Diego, ASTA and USDA APHIS are hosting a joint meeting on systems approaches to phytosanitary regulations. The meeting will be held this Friday, January 26 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. in Marina 6.

APHIS representatives will discuss the Regulatory Framework for Seed Health Initiative (ReFreSH) — a proposed pilot program which will accredit existing QM systems used by the U.S. seed industry to reduce the risk of introduction of seedborne pathogens. As part of the discussion, international representatives will provide updates on similar initiatives going on around the world. In addition, the session will include a demo of the Phytosanitary Risk Reduction Model developed to measure the level of risk reduction achieved via standard QM practices for tomato canker in tomato seed.
