Indiana Amaranth Rules on Hold

Earlier this year, the Indiana Seed Control office proposed a rule to include all amaranth species on the state’s restricted weed seed list. Amaranth weed species have an extended period of germination, rapid growth, and high rates of seed production, and have been causing problems for farmers since the mid-1990s. If the rule is adopted, Indiana would be the only state to include all amaranth species on its restricted list. However, last month the state’s Attorney General put the rule on hold until an economic impact analysis is conducted.
