Help Spread the Word with Farmers: ASTA-SARE-CTIC Launch National Cover Crop Survey

  • On March 1, 2023

On March 1, USDA-NIFA Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program, Conservation Technology Information Center (CTIC) and the American Seed Trade Association (ASTA), with the help of Informa/Farm Progress, launched their seventh national survey to gather insight from farmers on their use of cover crops.

The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete and asks farmers questions about why they do or don’t use cover crops, where they get their information, and what goes into their decision-making process around the use of cover crops, including timing, varieties, and more. Farmers completing the survey can enter a drawing for a chance to win one of three $100 Visa gift cards.

Past surveys have been valuable in helping guide research priorities, direct communications and education efforts, provide data to researchers, and illustrate the effects of policy on cover crop use and adoption. Resulting data has been used in scientific papers, business planning, extension efforts, media coverage of cover crops, and included in testimony to Congress. For the seed industry, specifically, the survey results will help ensure the industry is prepared to meet farmer demand for cover crop seed varieties. See the press release for more information, and please help spread the word to your farmer customers.
