Farm Bill Extension a Possibility

As the threat of a government shutdown looms again, Congress is negotiating a stopgap spending bill that is combined with a one-year extension of the 2018 Farm Bill. This extension would ensure that commodity programs can operate as normal in 2024. These legislative measures don’t come without political controversy, and some members of both parties have expressed disdain for the approach. At the time of publication of this newsletter, the House has passed its version of the budget resolution, which includes a one-year Farm Bill extension and action in the Senate is anticipated any day.
