On July 31, 2023, the EPA’s revision to the regulation of Plant Incorporated Protectants (PIP) went into force. The revision created two categories of exemptions from tolerance and registration: 1) certain loss of function (LOF) PIP; and 2) certain PIPs created through genetic engineering from a sexually compatible plant. To qualify for the exemptions, the PIP must meet specific criteria listed for each category. Additional information, including recorded webinars, can be found here.

ASTA continues to have concerns about the scope of this rule and is advocating on behalf of the industry. Learn more in this recent op-ed from ASTA President & CEO Andy LaVigne and International Fresh Produce Association CEO Cathy Burns.
