Craig, Smucker Introduce Hours-of-Service Legislation

  • On November 6, 2019

Reps. Angie Craig (MN-2) and Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) introduced the Responsible & Efficient Agriculture Destination (TREAD) Act on October 30. This bill is intended to provide relief from the Department of Transportation’s hours-of-service rules for livestock and perishable agricultural commodities. If enacted, truckers within 150 miles of their destination could finish their routes without running out of hours-of-service and triggering penalties from the Department of Transportation. The bill would also expand the hours-of-service exemption for agriculture year-round instead of only at harvest time.
