Brazil Removes Most Proposed Brassica Juncea Seed Import Requirements

There has been positive progress regarding the proposed requirements for the importation of Brassica juncea seed into Brazil as set by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Supply (MAPA). MAPA has now provided its official response to comments submitted by ASTA, which had raised concerns that some of the proposed measures were not fully science based. Most of these key concerns have now been addressed.
MAPA has granted the following:
- Pathogens: 4 of the 5 proposed pathogen requirements have been removed
- Pests: All proposed pest requirements have been removed
- Weeds: All proposed weed requirements have been removed
- Implementation Date: Delayed by one year
This outcome is a strong result for the industry and highlights the importance of ASTA’s science-based input during the regulatory consultation process.
