ASTA Submits Comments on Brazil’s Proposed Phytosanitary Requirements for Additional Brassica Seeds

ASTA recently submitted comments on proposed phytosanitary requirements in Brazil for the importation of Brassica napus, Brassica carinata, and Brassica rapa seeds. ASTA conducted a comprehensive review of the scientific literature and identified several pests and pathogens for which there is no evidence of seed transmission or a natural host association with one or more of the specific Brassica species being regulated. These represent 15 pest–commodity combinations across the three proposals. ASTA requested that Brazil provide the scientific basis for including these organisms or remove them from the proposed requirements. The submission is available in the members-only portal. 

In March, ASTA submitted comments on Brazil’s proposed requirements for Brassica juncea that resulted in the removal of most of the proposed requirements. Those comments are also available in the members-only portal.
