ASTA’s Director of State Government Affairs Pat Miller recently traveled to Hawaii to participate in several meetings on plant breeding innovation. Miller partnered with Dr. Adrianne Massy, BIO, to deliver a joint presentation on plant and animal breeding innovation to Hawaii Crop Improvement Association (HCIA) company representatives, legislators, community stakeholders, and growers. The following day, Miller and Massey conducted a half-day communications workshop to a core group of HCIA members made up of lobbyists, public relations personnel, and company representatives. On the third day, they met with University of Hawaii faculty and graduate students to discuss the evolution of biology, biotechnology and the ag-biotech regulatory systems, as well as the role of transgenic products in the marketplace.
