ASTA Offers Special Leadership Development Programming during PLDC

  • On April 17, 2019

ASTA’s Policy & Leadership Development Conference (PLDC), June 15-19 in Denver, CO will offer special leadership development programming for students, teachers and industry leaders.

On Saturday, June 15, the program kicks off with a welcome lunch for attending students and emerging company leaders. The lunch will be followed by a session on onboarding and retention of company talent, combined with the future of work, in a time when more generations are in the workplace than ever before.

Sunday, June 16, will focus on developing career skills, beginning with the importance of having a professional brand and what skills/tools are needed to truly represent the agriculture industry. The Colorado FFA State Officer team will present a “PL/DC Lightning Talk” on building the future of agriculture. ASTA’s FuSE/LEAD Committees will host a session on networking to grow your career, followed by a happy hour where participants will put the networking skills they learned into action.

Teachers will find their place on Monday, June 17, with sessions dedicated to seed-related education, offering a look into seed career paths. Here, a new “organizational chart of the seed industry” will be unveiled as a tool for agriculture teachers and students to better understand the rapidly evolving career opportunities offered by the industry.

The Leadership Development track culminates in the ultimate learning and networking opportunity, with the “PL/DC Hackathon.” During this special event, career professionals will work together in a rapid-fire problem-solving exercise to provide ideas on how the conference and ASTA’s own membership programs could better serve the next generation of the seed industry.

PLDC offers something new for the seed industry – an immersive, collaborative experience across multiple generations, connecting and learning about today’s key seed innovations and crucial policy issues. From student delegations from top universities and FFA, to top seed executives from across all crops – there is something for everyone at PLDC.
