From October 31 – November 2, ASTA held another successful Farm and Lawn Seed Conference hosted in conjunction with the Western Seed Association Conference in Kansas City. ASTA’s committee meetings and educational sessions discussed a range of critical issues for the grass, cover crop, farm, lawn, and environmental and conservation seed industries. Networking opportunities hit new record highs with 18 reserved appointment tables and 14 exhibitors.

Federal partners at the Bureau of Land Management, USDA’s Natural Resources and Conservation Service and Seed Regulatory and Testing Division presented at the meeting. A new Noxious Weed Working Group was launched to address quickly evolving state regulations. The Cover Crop Working Group met to discuss how the seed industry can help meet the goal of 100 million acres of cover crops by 2027, and heard from Greg Papworth of Mode Transportation on challenges and opportunities for seed shipments. Lastly, the Grass Seed Division engaged in a spirited dialogue with the Oregon Grass Seed Bargaining Association on grass seed production.
