ASTA Hosts NC-FAR Hill Seminar on Plant Breeding for Food Safety

On February 20, the National Coalition for Food and Agricultural Research (NC-FAR), through a sponsorship by ASTA, hosted a lunch-and-learn briefing for Capitol Hill staff. The briefing featured Dr. Allen Van Deynze, University of California, Davis, who presented on plant breeding for food safety, focusing on identifying genes in specialty crops that are susceptible to diseases like salmonella and E.coli.

The seminar was well attended with over 70 Hill staff. ASTA’s Director of Government Relations, Virginia Houston moderated the panel. Dr. Van Deynze’s presentation can be found online at the NC-FAR website.
