Tariff Truce – No Additional Tariffs Levied between China-U.S. for 90-day Negotiation Window

  • On December 18, 2018

Following a handshake agreement between U.S. President Trump and Chinese President Xi at the G20 summit, no additional tariffs between the countries will be levied during a 90-day negotiation period which began in early December. The 10-percent tariff on 23 types of planting seeds will remain but will not increase to 25-percent on January 1 as previously discussed. The negotiations are led by U.S. Trade Representative Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Mnuchin along with China’s Vice-Premier Liu He. It remains to be seen what progress must be made before the countries will lower or eliminate the tariffs all together.
