Seed Science Foundation Funds New Proposal

ASTA’s Seed Science Foundation (SSF), has chosen to fund the proposal “Validation study of a Real-Time PCR method for the detection of Pantoea stewartia subsp. Stewartia (Stewart’s wilt) in maize seeds.” The industry and SSF Board agree this is important and impactful work, as an improved method could resolve the seed import rejections or crop destructions associated with cross reactions (false positives) known with the current available testing methodologies. Current methodologies cannot distinguish the various subspecies of Pantoea stewartia, causing seed lots to often be unnecessarily rejected by trading partners.

The SSF assists and collaborates with ASTA through its research efforts. For information, contact Ann Jorss.
