Hemp Seed Educational Resources Available for ASTA Members

  • On June 13, 2019

Things are happening so fast in the hemp world that it is sometimes hard to keep up. Four-hundred-and-fifty hemp-related bills have been filed across every state except Delaware this year. To date, 71 of those bills have passed. The removal of hemp as a federally controlled substance in the 2018 Farm Bill has had widespread impacts. Throughout all of these changes, consumer protection is critical. The ASTA Hemp Seed Working Group has been working to help the grower community learn about regulations and policy surrounding hemp seed. As part of these efforts, the working group has produced two new documents:

  1. How to Read a Label on a Bag of Hemp Seed
  2. Laws, Regs & Other Considerations when Buying Hemp Seed

ASTA members are encouraged to download these documents for use in customer conversations.

The working group will host a session at ASTA’s Policy & Leadership Development Conference in Denver. Held on Monday, June 17 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. MT, the session titled “Hemp Seed Opportunities & Challenges” will feature 11 speakers with discussion covering the three primary areas: legal & regulatory; genetics & production; and end-market use. More details can be found here.
