Congress Passes Bill to Fund Government through December 11

  • On September 18, 2026

Avoiding a government shutdown before the midterm elections on November 3, Congress voted to continue government funding at existing levels until December 11, 2026. President Trump subsequently signed the legislation into law. Without this bill, known as a “continuing resolution” (CR), the government would have shut down on September 30. During a government shutdown, members of Congress running for re-election would have had to suspend campaign operations to vote until funding was restored.
