ASTA Submits Statement for the Record After Senate Finance Committee Hearing

  • On March 4, 2026

After the Senate Committee on Finance held a February 12 hearing titled, “The U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement: Evaluating North American Competitiveness,” ASTA submitted a written statement for the record expressing the Association’s strong support for the United States-Canada-Mexico Agreement (USMCA). In this statement, ASTA detailed how the seed industry relies on the free movement of goods to test, grow, and develop seeds, as well as how the chapters on intellectual property, biotechnology, and sanitary and phytosanitary issues require some of the strongest obligations of other countries in any trade agreement.

The Senate Finance Committee is the senatorial committee with jurisdiction over trade agreements. To watch a recording of the hearing, click here. ASTA’s full statement can be found here.
