ASTA Delegation Strengthens Ties in Mexico

In September 2025, an ASTA delegation went to Mexico to revitalize collaborations with the Mexican Seed Trade Association (AMSAC) and identify key areas for continued engagement, including phytosanitary measures, plant breeding innovation policy, and the upcoming review of the USMCA. Highlights of the visit include strategic meetings with USDA FAS and APHIS officials at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City to discuss U.S. seed industry priorities and plans for sustained bilateral dialogue. The delegation also met with the Service for the National Health for Food Safety and Food Quality (SENASICA) to follow up on the recent trilateral phytosanitary discussions, explore revisions to import measures, and lay the groundwork for future cooperation. Engagements with the U.S. Grains and Bioproducts Council and local ASTA member representatives provided valuable insights into trade constraints affecting U.S. seed and commodity imports. The visit reaffirmed ASTA’s commitment to deepening relationships with Mexican regulatory bodies and industry associations to support science-based policy and trade facilitation.
