  • On September 5, 2025

ASTA was proud to support the Asia Pacific Seed Association’s (APSA) 2025 Regional PVP & Biodiversity Consultation. More than 50 industry experts from seed associations, government, and companies from 14 countries participated in the three day consultation, coordinated in partnership with Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), the Japan Seed Trade Association (JASTA), and international collaborators such as ASTA, CropLife Asia, and the International Seed Federation. Over the course of the consultation, colleagues from across the globe discussed a number of key issues on intellectual property in the seed sector. From Essentially Derived Varieties (EDVs) and PVP enforcement, to DUS testing and a practical access and benefit-sharing (ABS) frameworks, a number of vital topics were discussed on how to protect plant breeders’ rights, expand innovation, and support farmers while protecting food security.
