Washington State Chlorpyrifos Study Bill Vetoed

  • On April 29, 2020

Senate Bill 6518 passed the Washington State legislature this session and would have allocated almost $300K to study the pesticide chlorpyrifos and create rules to limit its use. However, the governor vetoed the bill citing fund allocation issues as a result of COVID-19. Also cancelled in the bill, was a $280,000 Washington State University study to help farmers find alternatives to chlorpyrifos. The bill, as originally filed, asked for a ban on chlorpyrifos except for use on three crops. California, Hawaii and New York have passed similar bans in recent years.
